During a routine excavation on a previously uncharted planet, a Star Fleet archeological expedition makes a remarkable discovery: a ring, measuring 6.7 metres (22 ft) in diameter, weighing 29,000 kg (64,000 lb), and composed of an unknown material.
Also found, was a small, pedestal-type artifact; both the ring and the pedestal had engraved upon them, strange markings (or, "glyphs" or "chevrons"). Equally odd, was a stone cover, also engraved, but with an extra "glyph" on it (not found on either artifact).
